    Valoraciones de los estudiantes de ciencias de la educación sobre la calidad de la docencia universitaria

    The social scene propelled the process of change of the European Higher Education according to the Bologna Declaration. The substantial core of the university reform is the reordering of priorities that has occurred in the teaching-learning process. Currently, priority is placed on the students and their learning rather than in teachers being in the core of the process.Consequently, this new model requires greater input from students in university life. In these circumstances, research on teachers from the point of view of students has the potential relevant to the understanding of academic performance. This paper presents a descriptive study conducted with 1388 participants from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. For this study, we used the questionnaire CDUCA (Characteristics of University Teaching Quality from the point of view of Students) which collects student ratings of university faculty in nine dimensions: personal identity and planning; mediationof learning readiness to students, use of new technologies, guidance and control self-assessment own learning, experiential learning, academic proficiency in their area and critical thinking. The study results confirm the importance, perceived by the various agencies that regulate the EHEA, of promoting the articulation of new teaching skills in order to improve sociopersonal skills and professional. Similarly, it was found that teachers are valued differently according to gender. Finally, the results confirm that students in first and second cycle were assessed differently according to the characteristicsof quality teaching that show their teachers. Thus, as an example, undergraduate students are the ones that most positively value their teachers in relation to students in other academic levels.El escenario social impulsó el  proceso de cambio en el que se encuentra la Educación Superior europea tras la Declaración de Bolonia. El núcleo sustancial de la reforma universitaria es la inversión de prioridades que se ha producido en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. En la actualidad, la prioridad se sitúa en el estudiante y su aprendizaje más que en el profesorado y su enseñanza. En consecuencia, este nuevo modelo requiere una mayor aportación de los estudiantes en la vida universitaria. Dadas las circunstancias, la investigación sobre el profesorado desde el punto de vista de los estudiantes representa un potencial relevante para la comprensión del funcionamiento académico. En el presente trabajo se presenta un estudio descriptivo que se llevó a cabo con 1388 participantes de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Para esta investigación se utilizó el cuestionario CDUCA (Características de la Docencia Universitaria de Calidad desde el punto de vista de los Alumnos) que recoge las valoraciones de los estudiantes sobre el profesorado universitario en nueve dimensiones: identidad personal y planificación; mediación del aprendizaje; disposición favorable hacia los estudiantes; utilización de las nuevas tecnologías; orientación, autoevaluación y control propio del aprendizaje; aprendizaje experiencial; dominio académico en su área; y, pensamiento crítico. Los resultados del estudio confirman la importancia, percibida por parte de los distintos organismos que regulan el EEES, de fomentar la articulación de nuevas competencias docentes al objeto de mejorar las capacidades socio-personales y profesionales. Del mismo modo, se comprobó que los docentes son valorados de diferente manera en función del género. Por último, los resultados confirman que los estudiantes de primer y segundo ciclo valoran de forma diferente las características de la docencia de calidad que muestran sus profesores. Siendo los estudiantes de primer ciclo los que valoran más positivamente a sus profesores

    Chemically induced dimerization modules as a platform for plant biosensor engineering

    Protein biosensors for small molecules have important applications in agriculture, medicine, and security, but it remains difficult to rapidly produce a high-affinity sensor for a given ligand. This is partly due to two major challenges. First, most small molecule ligands have only a small number of residues with which a protein can make energetically favorable contacts, making it difficult to engineer high-affinity binding. Second, even if a high-affinity binding protein is engineered, it is difficult to transduce the binding event into an output. The majority of plant hormone perception occurs by chemically induced dimerization, where binding of the hormone to a soluble receptor causes a conformational change that allows the receptor to form a heterodimer with an interaction partner. These CID modules make an ideal platform for engineering small molecule biosensors because they naturally address the two primary challenges above: their unique architecture allows sensitive biosensors to be constructed from low-affinity receptors and protein dimerization provides a natural method of ligand binding transduction. The ability to engineer CID modules would lead directly to in planta biosensors and would also have broader applications to biosensor design in other biological systems. Here we describe the development of a general biosensor engineering platform using the abscisic acid receptor PYR1 of Arabidopsis thaliana, which was previously engineered to sense the agrochemical mandipropamid.1 We combine comprehensive mutagenesis2,3, high-throughput screening, deep sequencing, and machine learning to rapidly construct a model of the fitness landscape for binding of PYR1 to a specific ligand. We then use this model to design a targeted library to screen for higher affinity sensors. For high-throughput screening, we use both an established yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screen and a novel yeast surface display (YSD) system. These techniques offer complementary advantages: Y2H is straightforward to implement and requires no purified protein, while YSD offers higher throughput and more stringent quantification of protein-protein interactions.     Effect of L-Hyp supplementation on collagen muscle histology, gene expression, growth performance, body composition and fillet texture on big size European sea bass (Dicentrarchux labrax)

    Hydroxyproline (L-Hyp) is amply present in fishmeal but limited in plant-protein sources. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementation with dietary L-Hyp on the distribution of collagen types in the muscle, and on the texture, survival rate, growth rate, feed utilization, body composition as well as the expression of the gene that encodes the pro-alpha2 chains of type I collagen (Col Iα2) of large European sea bass (initial body weight 609.21 ± 75.39 g) from high plant-protein diets. Four isoproteic (42 % crude protein) and isolipidic (20 % crude lipid) experimental diets were formulated adding 0.6 (HL diet), 1.2 (HM diet), and 2% (HH diet) L-Hyp, respectively. Three periods of feeding of 45, 99 and 143 days were studied. L-Hyp supplementation at 1.2 % and 2 % significantly improved specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). In the white muscle, type I, IV collagen and trichromic stain were significantly higher in HH feed than the control diet. In the red muscle, only type I collagen was higher. HH diet, also increases Col Iα2 mRNA levels in muscle significantly. It can be concluded that the addition of crystalline l-Hyp at 1.2 % or 2 % in high plant-protein diets indicates positive effects on growth performance of adult European sea bass and increase in muscle total collagen deposition.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Fe3O4-Au Core-Shell Nanoparticles as a Multimodal Platform for In Vivo Imaging and Focused Photothermal Therapy

    In this study, we report the synthesis of gold-coated iron oxide nanoparticles capped with polyvinylpyrrolidone (Fe@Au NPs). The as-synthesized nanoparticles (NPs) exhibited good stability in aqueous media and excellent features as contrast agents (CA) for both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-ray computed tomography (CT). Additionally, due to the presence of the local surface plasmon resonances of gold, the NPs showed exploitable “light-to-heat” conversion ability in the near-infrared (NIR) region, a key attribute for effective photothermal therapies (PTT). In vitro experiments revealed biocompatibility as well as excellent efficiency in killing glioblastoma cells via PTT. The in vivo nontoxicity of the NPs was demonstrated using zebrafish embryos as an intermediate step between cells and rodent models. To warrant that an effective therapeutic dose was achieved inside the tumor, both intratumoral and intravenous routes were screened in rodent models by MRI and CT. The pharmacokinetics and biodistribution confirmed the multimodal imaging CA capabilities of the Fe@AuNPs and revealed constraints of the intravenous route for tumor targeting, dictating intratumoral administration for therapeutic applications.     The DOF Transcription Factor SlDOF10 Regulates Vascular Tissue Formation During Ovary Development in Tomato

    The formation of fruits is an important step in the life cycle of flowering plants. The process of fruit development is highly regulated and involves the interaction of a complex regulatory network of genes in both space and time. To identify regulatory genes involved in fruit initiation in tomato we analyzed the transcriptomic profile of ovaries from the parthenocarpic PsEND1:barnase transgenic line. This line was generated using the cytotoxic gene barnase targeted to the anthers with the PsEND1 anther-specific promoter from pea. Among the differentially expressed genes we identified SlDOF10, a gene coding a DNA-binding with one finger (DOF) transcription factor which is activated in unpollinated ovaries of the parthenocarpic plants. SlDOF10 is preferentially expressed in the vasculature of the cotyledons and young leaves and in the root tip. During floral development, expression is visible in the vascular tissue of the sepals, the flower pedicel and in the ovary connecting the placenta with the developing ovules. The induction of the gene was observed in response to exogenous gibberellins and auxins treatments. To evaluate the gene function during reproductive development, we have generated SlDOF10 overexpressing and silencing stable transgenic lines. In particular, down-regulation of SlDOF10 activity led to a decrease in the area occupied by individual vascular bundles in the flower pedicel. Associated with this phenotype we observed induction of parthenocarpic fruit set. In summary, expression and functional analyses revealed a role for SlDOF10 gene in the development of the vascular tissue specifically during reproductive development highlighting the importance of this tissue in the process of fruit set

    Synthesis and Structure of Trinuclear W3S4 Clusters Bearing Aminophosphine Ligands and Their Reactivity toward Halides and Pseudohalides

    The aminophosphine ligand (2-aminoethyl)- diphenylphosphine (edpp) has been coordinated to the W3(μ- S)(μ-S)3 cluster unit to afford trimetallic complex [W3S4Br3(edpp)3]+ (1+) in a one-step synthesis process with high yields. Related [W3S4X3(edpp)3]+ clusters (X = F−, Cl−, NCS−; 2+−4+) have been isolated by treating 1+ with the corresponding halide or pseudohalide salt. The structure of complexes 1+ to 4+ contains an incomplete W3S4 cubane-type cluster unit, and only one of the possible isomers is formed: the one with the phosphorus atoms trans to the capping sulfur and the amino groups trans to the bridging sulphurs. The remaining coordination position on each metal is occupied by X. Detailed studies using stopped-flow, 31P{1H} NMR, and ESI-MS have been carried out in order to understand the solution behavior and the kinetics of interconversion among species 1+, 2+, 3+, and 4+ in solution. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been also carried out on the reactions of cluster 1+ with the different anions. The whole set of experimental and theoretical data indicate that the actual mechanism of substitutions in these clusters is strongly dependent on the nature of the leaving and entering anions. The interaction between an entering F− and the amino group coordinated to the adjacent metal have also been found to be especially relevant to the kinetics of these reactions

    Assessing Urban Accessibility in Monterrey, Mexico: A Transferable Approach to Evaluate Access to Main Destinations at the Metropolitan and Local Levels

    Cities demand urgent transformations in order to become more affordable, livable, sustainable, walkable and comfortable spaces. Hence, important changes have to be made in the way cities are understood, diagnosed and planned. The current paper puts urban accessibility into the centre of the public policy and planning agenda, as a transferable approach to transform cities into better living environments. To do so, a practical example of the City of Monterrey, Mexico, is presented at two planning scales: the metropolitan and local level. Both scales of analysis measure accessibility to main destinations using walking and cycling as the main transport modes. The results demonstrate that the levels of accessibility at the metropolitan level are divergent, depending on the desired destination, as well as on the planning processes (both formal and informal) from different areas of the city. At the local level, the Distrito Tec Area is diagnosed in terms of accessibility to assess to what extent it can be considered a part of a 15 minutes city. The results show that Distrito Tec lacks the desired parameters of accessibility to all destinations for being a 15 minutes city. Nevertheless, there is a considerable increase in accessibility levels when cycling is used as the main travelling mode. The current research project serves as an initial approach to understand the accessibility challenges of the city at different planning levels, by proving useful and disaggregated data.
